This course will teach you the importance of safer recruitment of people who want to work with children and adults at risk. It will assist you to recognise the risks to vulnerable groups should the wrong people be employed or allowed to volunteer.
You will become familiar with the procedures and protocols required to ensure that no mistakes are made in the recruitment of people into “regulated work”, which is working directly with children or adults at risk.
You will learn:
- What safer recruitment is and why it’s required
- How to implement safer recruitment policies and procedures
- The checks and investigations required to ensure that you have the right candidate
- How to implement induction and training programmes when onboarding staff
- How to apply safe recruitment practices to volunteers
- What resources and legislation are in place to ensure that safer recruitment happens

Who can take the Safer Recruitment Certification course?
There are no entry requirements to take the course.
What is the structure of the course?
The course has 5 modules and should take 4 hours. Each module takes between 15 and 45 minutes on average to complete, although students can spend as much or as little time as they feel necessary on the modules.
Where / when can the course be studied?
The course can be studied at any time and from any internet-connected device.
Is there a test at the end of the course?
Once you have completed the course there is a multiple choice test. The questions will be on a range of topics found within the modules. The test, like the course, is online and can be taken at a time and location of your choosing.
